My Background
My path to teaching began with my own experience as a learner.
I was homeschooled for the majority of my educational career until I went to school at the University of Colorado, and while the intent of my mom was loving, I didn’t receive the kind of instruction my brain truly needed. Looking back, I can see traits of ADHD and possibly dyslexia—things we didn’t fully understand at the time.
I always knew I wanted to work with children. After earning a double major in Humanities and Education, I found my way to New York and began nannying—where I was first introduced to working closely with neurodiverse learners. In that space, I discovered how powerful it is to be a calm, safe, and playful adult for sensitive children, and how growth happens most when the therapy is incremental and fun.
My work came full circle when I stepped into a homeschooling role, creating the kind of learning environment I once needed myself. That’s when I found the Orton-Gillingham Approach—a method that beautifully blends structure with engagement.
Now, as an Associate-level certified practitioner through the Academy of Orton-Gillingham, I design lessons that are explicit, cumulative, and supportive of each student’s nervous system—so they can feel calm, confident, and ready to learn, while always keeping a focus on dopamine and playful moments that help with engagement and retention of material.
